Ever have your nose so red it rivals Rudolph? Or how about your eyes so dry and irritated thanks to your “allergies” or rather sinusitis. Now imagine all those symptoms coupled with a huge zit to complement your dried out nose. But what exactly do people mean when they say “my ALLERGIES are bothering me today”. What exactly are they allergic to? Maybe it was that ice cream you had, or cereal with milk you had for breakfast two days ago or maybe that milkshake with grilled cheese sandwich at the diner the other night.
You may ask yourself what does that have to do with my Sinuses? Well your diet mostly consisting of dairy, may be the culprit. Dairy has become the greatest unknown problem for those with respiratory issues such as asthma and sinusitis. Many are completely unaware that migraines and sinus headaches are actually triggered by dairy products you may have been consuming recently. Dairy causes the body to produce a lot of mucus which in turn congests yours sinuses. Asthmatics especially should look into staying away from milk since mucus ( hardened mucus) is usually always the problem when it concerns an asthmatic. More information on your sinuses.
Dairy is also connected to those who deal with skin issues such as frequent pimples to severe acne. It is believed that most of the hormones in milk and dairy product are excessively high for our bodies to consume in turn causing your skin to erupt.
Dairy has also been linked to those who deal with migraine headaches. So if you are wondering what may be causing your headaches you should try an elimination diet to further verify what it is that triggers sinus issues and headaches.
I have dealt with sinus issues since I have memory, runny nose, asthma, headaches and a ruined nose thanks to my consistent rubbing. My nose’s skin is so damaged from rubbing so much, that I don’t ever think I can make it better again. I even had at one point this very ugly black strip across my nose which was caused from the constant runny nose and rubbing.
Having a year round cold even throughout the summer is not a great thing either. I remember once in the middle of July at the beach with a horrible runny nose and itchy eyes. Eyeliners were my greatest enemy. and mascara, I would not even bother. Sometimes it is crucial that you find out what is the root cause of your problem. For me it was dairy and milk, eliminating dairy helped my skin a lot and my colds and sinuses rarely bother me anymore.
Some of the simple things I tend to do to keep my sinuses clear are biweekly sinus rinses with a neti pot ( an ancient Ayurveda remedy). You can purchase a saline solution or make your own with kosher salt like I do. Just take a cup of warm water NOT HOT, but warm and pour about half teaspoon and let it dilute and pour it in my Neti pot. I like to do this in the shower since it tends to be easier for me.

A great article I came across and actually helped me really prove that my sinus problems were linked to dairy.
I actually tried that experiment and after two days my allergies were insane. It has now been a couple of weeks and when I indulge in a caramel sundae just to see, without a doubt, my allergies once again interrupts my day. So there you go do your own research and see what works best for you in trying to at least stay sane while sneezing at the same time.
