Thanaka is a powder grounded from the Thanaka Tree bark found throughout Myanmar and has been used by Burmese women for over 2,000 years for cosmetics purposes. An age old beauty tradition, it is used primarily by women to protect their skin from sun damage, acne, fungus, skin sores and to cool and soothe the skin. It is applied daily in simple yet beautiful and intricate designs as well. Thanaka is also used for a variety of health purposes. I’m currently scouting my local Indian neighborhoods to see if I can score some to try and share my experience.
