If you have ever been to the fascinating Island of the Dominican Republic you will know that it’s a great place to have fun. But have you noticed how straight and moisturized Dominican women’s hair can be on that hot a** island? I always wondered how they manage in such heat. Dominican women and beauty salons throughout the country are famous for their ability to master black or what many inexperienced salons call unmanageable hair. Dominican hair stylist will leave your hair mega straight, smooth and shiny in just one visit no matter what kind of hair you walk in with.
The techniques are rather simple and less damaging than traditional black owned salons, (hot combs etc) in my opinion. But the truth is that the secret in their success with such hard to manage hair like mine relies mostly on the products they use. Eventhough you may see the Brooklyn stylist use American products to finish you hairstyle, you better believe that there was at least one or two Dominican products used at any given moment.
But in the Dominican Republic itself it’s a whole other ball game. On the island the products mostly used are straight up Dominican so they have access to only their products which makes it even more intriguing. For this little island to be a third world country, I have to admit that these ladies hair be on point! Young old, small. everyone is rocking a straight hair style with great shine, length and most important moisture.
When you walk into any NYC beauty supply store you will find an entire aisle and in most cases 2, dedicated only to Dominican hair products. It is an amazing sight providing you with many choices throughout. Most products prices range from 4- 10 dollars. You are also able to buy smaller versions of most products which is great because I don’t have to spend money on the full size version if I just want to try the product first.
The variety can also amaze you. From chocolate based conditioners to whale sperm and snail ingredients too, the Dominican woman’s beauty arsenal leaves no stone unturned.
So I been building my beauty Dominican products arsenal slowly but surely and will be documenting my reviews and progress with each product I encounter. So stay tuned for my Dominican hair care reviews!
