One of the things I’ve managed to get into the frequent habit of is to drink lots of water. Enough that I know I’ve reached for my bottle several times throughout the day. I always keep a liter bottle of water handy and try to drink the entire bottle by the end of a 9-10 hour workday. I find that’s enough in addition to the rest of the liquids I drink such as tea, juices, etc. throughout the day.
Dehydration can be a serious matter if not attended to in a timely manner. I know people who do not drink a sip of water all day for days. That is amazing to me considering we’re made up of water for the most part . This can lead to many issues such as headaches, migraines, constipation and lack of energy among many others.
- Dry Skin
- Headaches/ Dizziness
- Heartburn
- Dark Urine/ Urinary tract infections
Water provides our cells with oxygen and allows our cells to function more efficiently. This is definitely important to prevent dry skin especially during the winter months which contributes to premature wrinkling. Lack of oxygen to the brain also causes lack of concentration. Some people can be so dehydrated that they can be tear less which is a little extreme and shows the severity of this often over looked condition.
Tips for keeping hydrated:
- Keep a water bottle handy to keep you reminded to take a drink of water often. I keep my water bottle right by my computer at work, that way every time I glance over I’m reminded to take a sip.
- Drink enough to keep you drinking. If you don’t drink water much start small. Don’t get overwhelmed with drinking too much water where you end up not wanting anymore.
- Ask yourself, did I drink water today? By simply taking the moment can remind you to grab a cup or a bottle and drink some water for the day.
