So right before Christmas, I decided to ditch the beauty salon and got serious with my hair. I’ve been protective styling for the past month or so since my recent lazy streak and flat iron rampage. I have achieved length beyond my expectations due to my diligent dedication and ever since reaching my goal length, I’ve been slacking so it’s back to good hair habits.
Two things my hair can’t live without. Weekly deep conditioners and seal & moisture. Those have been the two major things I got back on track to doing. With so little time even on the weekends, it’s been hard trying to do a homemade DC. So I been sticking mostly to my same old products although I’ve upgraded a few things since my last post here.
So to keep it simple here’s what’s been working for me. (Check back for a hair only post)
A— Roux Porosity Control—1x a month– Used for hair that does not seem to retain moisture or before a chemical treatment also to allow hair to become more receptive to treatment. I use this rarely maybe every other month, but I like to use it every once in a while to help balance my hair.
B—Salerm 21–-I’ll usually reach for this when at the salon, moisturizes without weighing my hair down. And a little goes a long way. If I air dry I use Chi Keratin Mist to strengthen.
C—Hair One Sulfate Free Shampoo— I love this sulfate free shampoo cleanses and moisturizes at the same time without drying my hair. I use this weekly however I have to keep an eye on my scalp to prevent buildup.
D—Aloe Vera Juice— If air drying my hair, I go to my aloe juice as a leave in especially if my hair feels like it’s on the hard side due to protein overload. This provides my hair with a lot of moisture and soft hair which is rare when air drying.
E—Grape seed Oil— I use Grape seed oil for many of my scalp massages which I do a lot thanks to the fantastic results. This oil is also my sealing oil after I moisturize. Castor Oil used to be my staple oil by switched it to grape seed for it’s natural heat protectant qualities I’ve heard so much about.
F—Nexxus Heat Protectant— I ask my stylist to use this when flat ironing my hair. I like it because it does not leave my hair stiff like others I’ve tried.
G—Nexxus Humectress Deep Conditioner— When I started my hair Journey back in 2009 I came across a lot of great reviews on Humectress. At the time I was mostly into homemade recipes and other deep conditioners and never gave it a try until last month. I’ve only used this on air dry hair (a mini no heat challenge kick) and absolutely love it! I can only imagine the results on roller set hair. I’ll do a review on it’s own to show the results.
H—Quemet Biologics Amla & Olive Heavy Cream— I was so excited to get this. It’s been on my wish list for quite some time and got it as a gift this past Christmas for myself. I have mixed feelings about this product. My air dried hair seems to need a whole lot and does not seem to want to absorb. I got better results with he burdock root shown here. But it may be a whole different story on roller set hair so we shall see.
So far I’m trying to keep a hassle free regimen which I’m able to keep up with and stay excited about. I’m on a no heat challenge since about Dec 18. It’s been over a month so I’m proud and I’m pushing for another month. Right now I like my routine but as the true product junkie, I may switch it up again. Stay Tuned!
