I’ve been meaning to get into gear with decorating this room but never quite sprung into action like I hoped to last spring. It wasn’t until my little brother came to visit for a few days during Christmas that we got to work on my old dresser and inspired me to finally get this room done. This is the room I get ready in each morning and it’s also my home office each evening where I answer emails, blog posts, etc. The other side of the room is also my meditation/magic space where I rest my mind every once in a while.
My finished vision for this room is minimalist and functional. I despise clutter and need a use for everything, especially storage. I have been attracted to a lot of silver and whites with hints of pink. Overall I’m going for a cozy yet luxe feeling in this room while remaining functional for all my daily needs.
Mission 1: Paint
I really did not want to spend too much money on furniture so I got some left over white paint and painted my old dresser and closet doors semi gloss white to brighten up the room. I got some left over paint from a previous room paint job, Cost: $0.00
I originally wanted clear acrylic knobs to go with that luxe feel, but they were $4.99 each way out of my budget (I needed 10). After some searching I found a set of knobs at the home section of Walmart for only $12.99 for 10! They match perfectly with the dresser and definitely gave it that extra touch with the silver detail. The glass mirror top on the dresser was leftover from a larger glass sheet I cut last spring for my Alex Drawer. It was a very large mirror top sheet for under $15 cut to size at Lowe’s. Cost: $0.00
Mission 2: Decor
I don’t think I’m good at decorating mostly because I can’t stick with a theme and end up with a bunch of mixed matched items. Lately I have been doing much better as I have been sticking with my vision of mostly whites, touch of black, silver and pinks. I had 2 mirrored frames stored for some time now and been wanting to put them to good use so I got some prints to add to the frames that complements my theme and think they turned out very nice.
Mission 3: Organization
Once I had everything situated I looked into storage options for my makeup collection which is small but substantial. My local dollar store amazed me with all the options for just a dollar and I was excited to see the clear bins below because a few weeks prior I had purchased similar bins for between $5-$7 dollars. I bought a few to see how they fit in my drawers and they work very well!
There’s still more I need to get this room done, like sheer curtains to give the room more texture and warmth as well as some decor items to bring the look together. Stay tuned for Part 2 soon!
