Winter is here and I’m sure you have prepped your skin and hair for the brutal cold (currently 23 degrees in NY, brr!). However, we rarely realize the importance of “winterizing” our nails for the season too. Yes, you can and should winterize your nails as your hands and nails are most susceptible to damage during the bitter winter months. Not to mention the signs of aging can become very apparent in your hands with time.
In collaboration with Julep, check out some of my tried and tested tips (and from the pro’s too!) use to protect my nails and keep them healthy during these frigid months.
Hydrate| Not only on the outside with moisturizers, but on the insides too! DRINK up. Water is essential as it keeps you hydrated and cleanses your body of toxins.
Go Bare| I always make sure to let my nails breathe as too many layers of polish and chemicals can dry out your nails leaving them brittle and prone to breakage. I checked out Julep’s site and found this awesome Oxygen Nail Treatment ideal for those bare days.
File and Cut| This is typically overlooked but the way you trim your nails can determine how long they will last. I don’t typically trim with a nail clipper, as I feel it cracks my nails. Instead I always file every 3 days to keep my desired length. Make sure to use a hefty Emery board for a clean shape.
